Built August 5 1955
H= August
5 = 5th day
5 = 1955

Engine serial number (first pic) also indicates 1955. Built in Flint plant. Y = what it was installed in (car or truck) donโ€™t have that info in front of me at the moment.

Very likely a 235.

Welcome to Stovebolt. ๐Ÿ˜

Anthony - I'll 2nd Kevin's "Welcome to Stovebolt" message! thumbs_up A little more info to back up Kevin's report. Block casting# 3836233 is listed for 1955-57 Chevrolet 235's. The block casting date info and "55" in the serial number confirms it's a 1955 engine. The head casting# 3835913 is listed as used on 1954-57 235's (has the small temp sensor hole).

The "Y" at the end of the serial# confirms it was originally an "automatic transmission" (Powerglide) passenger car engine from data in the GM Heritage files (extract pic provided below). These were originally outfitted with hydraulic cam & lifters.

Hi Thank you for confirming, I thought it was the 216, but with the truck being old, must have been changed at some time.
