My 41 has a two speed rear diff that you shift with a floor shifter next to the trans shifter. It seems like the cable is seized so I want to go through the system. Does anyone have a document that shows the layout etc? I'm hoping to be able to save the cable. I suspect that's what's seized.
I like that it has cable actuated parking brakes. I wish mine did, versus the driveline mounted drum.
Mine has the drive line brake set up as well. I actually like that. It's all mechanical. Nothing that I see is dependent on vacuum except my distributor advance. I was able to get my 2 spd rear working today thankfully. It just needed a little extra loving.
Those manual shift 2 speeds usually have two stiff springs around the cable so the shift can be pre-selected. Then momentarily backing off the throttle and/or tapping the clutch pedal to unload the driveline torque lets the rear end shift be made very quickly. It takes a little practice to get the timing down pat. Jerry

That's interesting about the springs. I'll take a closer look at mine. It takes some grunt to shift between hi/low right now. I'm planning on disassembling everything and giving it some much needed maintenance to loosen things up. It's funny you mention the timing. I've been driving standards for more than 35 yrs yet I find myself having to relearn shifting for my 41.

You've also got a "crash box" transmission- - - -none of the gears are synchronized, so you're having to move spur gears in and out of mesh. The speed of the gears has to be perfectly matched for every shift to prevent grinding. Lots of double clutching and revving the engine- - - -especially on a downshift. Jerry

I think I figured out one of the issues that I was having and it's a big and dumb one on my part. It appears the PTO lever is reverse what I thought it was. I should have recognized it... I hope I can reverse the throw. It looks like the PTO is engaged when it's pulled towards the seat and disengaged when pushed away. The dump up is away and down is close to the seat. So at rest they're opposite. It seams like they should be side by side when down and off. I'm replacing the master cylinder this weekend. While I'm under there I'll have to asses the linkage.

Can the hydraulic valve crank at the pump be flipped/spun 180* to make the operating work backwards (the way you want it)?

My 46 2 speed diff works the same way, only instead of the springs pulling it into gear when there's slack in the drive train, the vacuum does. It down shifts a lot smoother then the tranny does! Mongo's Garage has some very cool reproduction stickers for shifting speeds!

Thanks Chris. Mine shifts much easier and smoother than the 4 speed also now that everything has started to loosen up.
