Okay experts. I've removed one side of my exhuast system This is so a bung can be welded in. I plan on replacing the whole system all new pipes mufflers and tips
The header collector measures 2.5 inches. The pipe is 2 inches. Searching most mufflers are 2.5 inches inlet/outlet. I was planning on using the original from collector to just past the 90 degree bend (preserve the bung). This is on a 52 with a 383 stroker. I'm not opposed to replacing the entire system. Just watching my $. Thanks in advance

What is your actual question? You say you plan on replacing everthing in your first paragraph, but then say you plan to use the original from the collector.
When you say "the original", what pieces are you wanting to keep and what are you wanting to replace?
If its for performance check out Engine Masters on Prime if you have it - they ran dyno tests on a variety of exhaust tube diameters as well as common mufflers, headers vs manifolds etc

Okay I was vague, if the 2in dia pipe is okay then I'll keep the header collector and the portion where it curves to parallel to the floor boards. Most of the mufflers I've researched are 2.5 in in dia. I will be definitely replacing mufflers. I can always use a reducer 2in to 2.5. I was wondering if 2in is too small for a 383

If anyone is looking around under my vehicle at my exhaust welds, I'm sure they're life is going in a direction they hadn't predicted.
If it's a stock 216/235 I doubt you'll notice much difference between 2" & 2-1/4" or larger
I can say in my own perception, with a V8 2.5" duals sounds better than 2-1/4" duals but... that's pretty subjective. On the street I very much doubt there's "seat of the pants" kind of performance difference or mileage but...

My temporary exhaust is much uglier, 4.3 vortec Y-pipe to a cherry bomb to a flex pipe and then a short down pipe. Should be good enough to get it to the muffler shop to dress it up
For a 383 stroker engine, a typical exhaust pipe diameter would be 2.5 inches; however, depending on the specific application and desired power level, you might consider a slightly larger 2.75 inch pipe for optimal performance. google it

I used 2 1/2" front to back on my 383 installation (actually the exhaust shop did the work). Not intending to use the performance capability of the 383 but it's what I built to go into the truck.
With a true dual system, 2.25 - 2.5 inch would be fine as long as you don't choke down at the mufflers. On my 2 ton with the 283, I used 2 in. pipe with 2.25 in. mufflers, the manifolds aren't 2.5 in. so it's not restricting at that point.
