Hello I am putting in my 4 speed with carrier bearing. I have ran into a problem with the rear end yoke is smaller on my 55 2nd series than the 55 1st series that I took the 4 speed and the two drive shafts.

My 55 2nd has a 3 1/2 inch with a 1 1/16 x3 3/16 u-Joint

The 55 1st series has 3 3/16 x 3 5/8 or 11/16

The question is does the first and second series have the same yoke spline will they enter change ? That would be for the pinion gear spline

Thanks for any help

P.S drive shaft on 2nd series is 3 1/2 the first series is 2 1/2

An easy fix might be a replacement u-joint cross that has different bearing dimensions on each end. They should be available fairly readily at a driveline shop. That way you don't need to mess with the pinion yoke and possibly mess up the bearing preload. This might help you out. Click on the style of u-joint you have and it'll take you to dimensions.

[on edit] Are both trucks the same series? 3200 and 3200? [another edit] They can't be, as the 55.1 series didn't have a 3200.

I will look at site. And to answer your question no I believe it is a 3800 2 ton oor 1 1/2 ton I just went and took the yoke off it is a 11 spline..

My 55 first series was a 3600 3/4 ton with a 4 speed great truck drove it for almost 10 years.

So what you are saying is they make a u-Joint that has make. 1 1/16 x3 3/16 x1 3/16 x3 11/16 on the other that would be awessom.

Thanks Kevin

Yes, there are u-joints that have different bearing cup diameters match up with different size yokes.

Type “MOOG universal joints (U- joints) by size” into your favorite browser, open to view. Scroll down their excellent chart. You can select the size required for each bearing cup and they provide a part number that will do the job.

AD 3800 trucks and many, many 3/4 and 1-ton trucks since use a series 1350 Spicer U-joint. The next size up is 1420 but I don't know the dimentions off hand. If you need a different joint on either end the driveline shop can cut, weld and balance the shaft with the yoke you need. Unless it's an expensive part like a slip joint, it won't cost much. I don't know if Moog uses the same numbering system.
