Rebuilt 235. All machine work done at local shop. Intake manifold has been machined. Still have intake leak. Can I stack gaskets or is there a better fix? Thanks
Did the manifolds get separated from each other during the rebuild? My GMC's manifolds did and when I put them back on they leaked.
My solution was: 1. loosely bolt the manifolds together. 2. install the manifold assembly to the head leaving the bolts to the head a little loose. 3. tighten up the bolts holding the manifolds together. 4. remove the manifold to head bolts leaving the manifold to manifold bolts tight. 5. have the machine shop true-up the manifolds to head surface. 6. re-install the manifold assembly with gaskets and alignment rings.
No more leaks.

Use a RemFlex gasket. Have the manifolds machined flat while they are bolted together to eliminate any warp. The gasket between the intake and exhaust at the heat riser needs to be replaced anyway, so they should be separated and checked for warp individually. Were the alignment rings used between the intake and the head? They ARE NOT optional. Jerry

Well, you have to take it back off to install a new gasket set so you may as well take it to the machine shop to have it trued up.

The manifold has already been machined when together and yes I used alignment rings. Should I take the intake and exhaust apart now even since it has already been machined.

I wouldn't.

I would install the manifolds without gaskets and find where the gaps are. You may find that when they shaved your manifolds, they took off enough meat to make your alignment rings too long now. A belt sander works well for grinding the rings shorter.

Justice, What/where was your leak??? Info may help another Bolter should they run into a similar problem.

Ditto on shortening the rings- - - -they can hold the intake away from the head and prevent the gasket from being compressed enough to seal. The remflex gasket is about twice as thick as the original, which also assures a good seal.

You want to make sure that the intake side seals completely. Vacuum leaks can cause burnt valves and, worst yet, burnt pistons. Try finding one only 0.040 over piston for a 235.
