I want to purchase a compact spare tire for my Chevy 3100 w/15” 6 lug. I’m installing a spare tire winch and don’t want a full size spare under the bed as I don’t drive far just a grocery getter around town. I was told a trailer tire and wheel would work? Has anyone done this?

Steve what YEAR you be running? I did put a spare tire cable winch under by 56 with full tire on a 6 lug rim under the rear. has several inch's of clearance with exhaust and bumper.
I run 17 inch rims on the truck and the spare is on a 15 inch but its a bigger tire than stock.

Try this wheel, with a small 15" tire on it. Same lug pattern as a 3100 stovebolt.

A trailer tire on a vehicle would be considered unsafe, so use your good judgement!

Hi. Jerry…..did you ever get that BW10 installed? I will give it a look. I don’t need a big heavy spare for driving around town. I took the side mount off and have a regular fender. Those side mounts destroy truck beds and springs on driver side. GM came up with bed clips and a wedge for the springs as a fix. Besides visibility is the pitts when backing up… very dangerous. Hi….its a 54 3100 1962 open drive line. 15” wheels….im getting rid of the fender spare side mount going to a regular fender. I purchased a spare crank and cable winch. I have a full spare but was looking to reduce weight also dual exhaust trying to avoid all the pipe work. But I guess the best way is to stick to the full size spare it was just an idea…thought someone may have done it. I hate the side mount spare it was a stupid idea but it was done for style in the 50’s but detrimental to the truck.

You are correct….but it would be used just to get to gas station or home. We never travel more than 20 miles around town so it might work ..keep speed down….but safety is a concern.
