Maybe a dumb question. Are tachometers voltage specific. 6v vs. 12v? I want to add a tach to my 6v system.

It depends on the vintage. Most newer ones will be voltage dependant because they use the primary voltage to run the sensor and drive the needle.

A lot of older ones were not.

Do you have a specific tach you are looking at? We could potentially help you evaluate whether or not it will work.

Here's a uneducated guess: If the tach doesn't have a separate 12v power wire it will work on 6 or 12 v.

'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12
'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.
