I looked at a 1966 model (per owner) 292 today and it was orange in color. Was it orange from the factory? I thought they were the alpine green color.

The casting number is 3921370

Thanks

As long as Walmart sells rattle can paint, who cares what color it was originally?

Chevy truck owners can of course be particular about the originality of their engine colors.

This is sourced from an informative blog about 1963 - 1966 292 engine paint colors: 292 Greenhttps://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/220319/

With some additional research, this can likely be corroborated.

I checked my shop and they are all red except a dark green one.

Friend of mine had a late year 1966 with a 292, built in TarryTown. He bought it with 25K on it about 10 years ago here in NH. It is super original and the engine is 0range.

Research from a few sources I found suggest the changeover from Green to Chevy Orange was model year 1967. Does that mean in late 1966 the changeover started? I don’t know.

You may be able to find and cite some more authoritative sources.

I have a 1966 c10 with a 250. Under all the grease it’s orange.

ol 55 thank you for the link. For 1965 and 66 truck with 292 it says green or dark gray. So either one would be correct.
