| | | | Joined: Jun 2023 Posts: 102 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2023 Posts: 102 | I've never had this issue before... Had the truck for 5 years now. It's a 1952 Chevy 1/2 Ton with a 54 235 in it. Recently replaced the starter and had no issues for a while but now it just clicks once when I push the floor starter all the way down. I have to slowly let off with my foot and hold it ever so slightly off of full pressure and it will start engaging the starter. Does anybody have an idea as to what is going on? Im running 6 volts still. Just to recap... I have to push the floor starter all the way in and then gently let off but hold it at that position once it starts turning over. Is the bendix not engaging the flywheel properly? Could it simply be a bad cell in my battery even? It doesn't seem to be a problem with the button on top of the starter but it could be I guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the contacts are burnt at all, mashing it all the way down may not make good contact, but letting off may get better contact. I would inspect the contact on the switch itself and see what you find. You can get your battery load tested, but if the starter turns normally once you do your dance with the starter pedal, I wouldn't suspect the battery.

It looks like some of the little stud behind the contact melted and now the contact floats a bit when pushing the button down. I am thinking I need a new switch. The one I have is only about a year old. I don't think it was making good contact. When I pushed it down by hand under the hood it would spark out from under it.

Could there be a thing about steel covered with what may look like copper? Took the starter off my truck tested on another battery and would not engage. Would another kick start switch solve my problem? Searching for answers.
