The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Interiors Radio Bezel?

I am working on a 1950 chevy 3100. I purchased a retrosound unit (so I could bluetooth music mostly). The original dash has some other holes present (see image). Anyone know of a bezel for that era? I always thought the knobs came through the dash and that's it. Maybe my truck was modified at some point. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Below is a screen grab of a dash panel with the original radio openings (center rectangle and 2 close in Control knob holes). Your dash got modified at some point. An original radio would have filled the center rectangle and 2 closer holes that center on the middle opening.

Is the radio displayed in the picture the one you intend to use?

Gdads51--makes sense! I had feared it may have been modified I'd like to use this one, but I am also open. I could also fill in the incorrect holes and go that route.

Are you able to move the knobs on the radio inboard so as to use the innermost holes in the dash? I'll bet you can. That radio looks like it was designed for your truck. That would provide a more correct look. Then you can fill all of the extra holes.

INFARMGUY, Looks like you have a bunch of extra holes in your dash. The one above and centered on the radio may have been used to mount a “stop light viewer”, especially if your truck had/has an exterior sun visor.

Maybe do some measuring before you decide. To my eyes, the inner set of holes look to be off. They should be equal distance from the center opening and that right side sure looks closer than the left. I can post edge to edge measurements in the morning.

Where you have the radio knobs looks to be correct. I installed a retro sound radio in my truck too.

Twin Jimmys is right on the holes you used for your radio. My comment above on using the inner holes is in error - sorry! Was looking at the pic on my phone, so I'm going to blame it on the silly small screen thingy - lol!

Go to arts and crat store and buy a sheet of thin plastic board. Cut to cover the area and secure with radio knobs.

The lighting in the garage is not the best at this time of day. More importantly, my eyes are not as good as they used to be. Add to that, my prescription reading glasses are playing hide n' seek. The two holes are the same distance from the center opening. It looks to be 15/16" from edge to edge between holes. That way we know for sure. Not that it really matters as your radio is in and looks like a good fit, just a few extra holes. Get creative or get to filling and painting!

I still have the radio delete plate but that only matches the large center square and two knob holes, which won't help you.
Too late for welding up the extras. Yes, a thin sheet of shapable plastic and a dash color match coat would be the easiest.
I just installed my classic radio with blue tooth and extras. I paid $350 for it 3 years ago and they want over $700 now.

What baffles me is all the other holes. The 4 smaller holes are not located exactly from each other, and also the two larger holes near the square opening are not in the same exact location from the edge of the square opening. Yes for shapeable plastic or metal attached to the inside of the dash and then fill in the holes. Do you have extra interior paint?

Wonder if it was an old farm truck cab that had fans mounted on the dash. One for pass, and other for driver. 2 different fans would maybe have different holes.

Looking to fill without welding, try All Metal. It’s meant to replace the old lead on body seams. It’s called other things also. Then sand, prim and blend… or shoot the whole dash. I’m terrible at blending.
Welding would be more permanent.
