What is the go to steering column to update a 65 truck? 73-87 I read but is there a specific year or vehicle to use the column from?

Uhm... ya want a straight column? Ya want a tilt column? Automatic shift / manual shift on the column? Ya running a shifter on the floor?

A lot of folks have used various ones out of the squarebodys.

There was an early 1970s chevy van that had a tilt column as well, but from what I have been told most of those have long since been stripped or scrapped.


my '65 c10 has a 1971 ish straight non tilt steering column for automatic shift.

I have the Ididit in my 66 c10. Somehow I ended up with. 67 thru 72 unit. I had it over a year before I realized the mistake. Too late to send it back. It turned out to not be a big deal, install was very easy. Even the American Autowire retire kit plugged right in. Mine is tilt plus has the 4 way built in. It was non painted & for floor shift model. Very pleased with it. I used a Grant 15” steering wheel, happy with that too
