anybody know the year range of the :confused: GMC General ? :confused: i'm looking for a 77'-79' just wondering if they had any earlyer than 77 ? I'm looking the semi tractor anybod know if the general was offered in a 6x6 tractor form ?

and did GMC make a semi tractor in the 60-66 body style as i haven't seen one yet :confused:

There were many. Conventionals up to Series 6500 and Series B which all Road Tractors might have been 7500's.

Tell us more about your '62 GMC. It looks like you have a 351 Toro-Flow Diesel in it. Altho isn't it actually a Series 4000 truck?

it's basicly a 1 ton with 8-19.5's and four wheel drive. . . . still has the half ton style front fender's but every one keep's saying it's 1-1/4 ton so basicly the same as 90's 3500HD 4x4 with dual rear wheel's. it's a gas engine. it's a
379M-V6 it was a township's truck. . .i was told the 379 only came such thing's as school buses and county/city truck's. . .when i've ordered part i've call it a C-40 so fare every thing matches up . . .

I remember those. They are kind of rare.

Just for a little extra info, if you actually have a 379, it is not the original engine. I believe the 379's were first out in 1974. Your forum name "351DV6" made me think that you had a Toro-Flow.

By the way, I'm also a B-Model Mack fan.

I'm sure with my luck is some cobbled together heap. . . But i don't care she run's drive's stop's. . . some times. . . lol !

The old B61T has the 673end triplex 6.38 gear's 11.00-20 tire's it was a $500 bargan turned into a $10,000 nightmare but she running and driving now. . .

Looks like you got a btie off subect, the question: "did GMC make a semi tractor in the 60-66 body style", short awnser, Yes.

the long awnser: they were built in every style of GMC from the 1960s, they were built from the 105" Conventional Trucks that looked like there little brother the pickups. but there is also the 90" B-model , the 72" steel tilt cab , and lets not forget the good old Aluminum "Tilt-Cab Cruiser" commonly called the "Crackerbox" by truck fans , which was the pre runner to the GMC Astro.

from best i can tell it's 1977-1988. . . .

now the third part was it offered in a 6x6 tractor still up for grab's . . . .

I'm going to guess the awnser your looking for about the GMC General will be in the book, "GMC Heavy-Duty Trucks 1927-1987" &/or "GMC: The First 100 Years".

I see 1976-1987 in one book and 1977-1987 in the other.

as for 6x6, well I guess if some one had a need and the money they could have gotten it that way......

I've seen them as 6x6's, just not in tractor form mostly cement truck's and tree puller's. . .

80's would be too new for my taste tho they look the same. . .so i'll look for the 1977-1979 model's. . .thats about the biggest GMC i know of. . .

Just wondering if you have ever checked out a GMC 9500 Extended Hood Tractor (Long Nose).

They were first out in 1966 and went into the '70's.

Big, tough and a classic for sure.

9500 GMC I can't say as i have seen one. . .

Here is a GMC 9500 Extended Hood. It is a wrecker. I'll try to find a tractor. They are around the net, but a little hard to find.
