RE the 66, I wasn’t looking for another project but I found this by accident in an alley of my very small home town (where I have been away for decades) but my farm is over there so I go back once in a while. I left a note to see if he wanted to sell (I was hoping NOT as is usually the case) but he called and said he was never going to get to it. It was bought new by the US forest service and used in a county near here which is devoid of trees᠁ahh the Gov’t! This guys grandfather bought if from the gov’t in 67 (have all the original paperwork!) so it was in their family til I bought it. 250 with sm465. I will do the standard 80s crossmember swap, rewire it, fix the Fred flinstone floors, and I’m not sure what to do with the drive train. I’m leaning toward keeping the 250 but warm it up and add a 4L80E for driveability and put decent 3 something gears in it. These projects tend to get a little off the rails᠁..going to be a long winter, as I also picked up a totally original rust free 69 Jeepster which needs love.
A link below to my “64 C10 build᠁..the 66 may go this route᠁.? Who knows. It would be very cool on a newer SB 4wd chassis᠁.we will see!
Finally was able (time and logistics) to spend some time getting it running; tailgate carb rebuild and some tinkering and it came to life after 24 years. Not a mosquito alive for ten miles for the first few minutes! Hauled it back across the mountains (and over Marias Pass) to where I live. Now it begins: mild 350 I had lying around, Tremec, 4wdb, wiring, some sort of an interior, and fix the Fred Flinstone floors.
Welcome back and glad to see you got your "new to you" truck home and managed to get it started.
Looking forward to seeing and hearing more on your project as it progresses.

Curious about the Tremec manual trans conversion. Does this truck have the parking brakes on the rear wheels or on the back of the transmission? Also curious how the shifter lines up versus the original, and if the Tremec bolts right up to the old bellhousing.
Tremec bolts right up. Just need to index the bellhousing and change clutch disc to a fine spline. The Tremec has both VSS and mechanical speedo outputs, which is nice, also an internal backup light switch. It is hard to describe how much different a good transmission makes a car/truck drive.
Finally got after this project and have a plan. 350/5 speed/new front (85 Silverado) supension/wiring/interior/4WDB/. Not over the top but a safe and comfy driver. All the rust is fixed (new inner and outer rocker and corners) and then I’ll blend the color and clear it all.
It’s waaay more fun to put them together! It also occurred to me all this sort of work which gets covered up will only be appreciated by me, which is fine. Still going to make my end of March date to be done and driving!

1962 C10 with a 235 6cyl -- all of the drive train seems to be original. Some of this story is in the Side Lot Some people like a new truck. I liked the old ones.
Looks great! Awesome to get all that rust fixed. Looking at the rear brake shoes, the pic looks like both shoes are the shorter primary lining which goes toward the front of the truck on each side, with the longer secondary lining toward the rear. But maybe nowadays they just give you all four shoes with the same length lining.

I was thinking they used to be different front to back, but I compared them and they were all exactly the same᠁
My new favorite product, after seeing it and hearing about it for years . Lizard skin! Super easy to use. The first thing I thought of was “how is this oatmeal going going to come out of the gun?” It does I used a little over half a gallon doing just the cab (leftover is going inside the doors) Do not spray the cat. Clean up is easy, but I wouldn’t wait. I’ve heard overspray is a problem, but I didn’t have issues, I just used a piece of cardboard where the floor meets the rockers᠁
Interesting, I guess they don't do different length linings anymore. In high school auto shop I was told that they're different lengths because the softer, shorter front lining primarily functions to push the larger, harder rear lining harder into the drum, and that's where the braking effectiveness/boost comes from, and why the name 'Duo-Servo.' Versus the old huck brakes that didn't use drum rotation to their advantage, just rammed the shoes out with wheel cylinder pressure.
Lizardskin looks like an interesting product. Did you use a standard spray gun or their specific spray gun? I've sprayed Zolatone thru my HVLP gun with 2.0 tip and a pressure cup to get it to the nozzle. That was on a friend's boat for repair of some peeling coating, and those spots are basically invisible.

Very definitely their gun. The stuff is like oatmeal. Tip is 1/2”
Behind schedule but now it runs. Seats mounted, seatbelts in, engine run to check for leaks and timing, now I can take it apart and do the interior , wiring, and put the body together. Gaining!!

What a coincidence. The pickup I’m working on spent its first year 66-67 as a forest service truck in Toole county, why I don’t know, as there aren’t any trees. Then it was purchased by the grandfather of the kid I purchased it from in the little town where I’m from originally. I thought briefly about rebadging it as a forest service truck, but naw᠁. I bought a decent door on Craigslist this week and was was “patinaing” it to make it look worn᠁.sprayed a little grey primer before the brown metallic then sanded the primer back᠁.low and behold, the remnants of this doors’ life showed up. It was totally invisible to the naked eye᠁. Well᠁..I was pretty excited᠁..
Since I’m not going full bananas on this pickup, I chose not to do AC. But the original heaters are huge and suck. I found the Vintage Air heater and it is SO cool! Very compact,it and the water control fit in the cab side of the firewall. I welded two small brackets to the inside of the cowl to mount the heater up under the dash so it won’t be seen. VA controls are servo so they are electronic and super controllable; no clunky flappers! $310.
Looks like a good choice on the heater. Still have room for the wiper motor? It's hard to tell from the photos. I'm currently waiting on a complete wiper motor , washer & related parts as part of my 66 c10 re-wire project, so that immediately came to mind.
Since I live in Florida I'm going to do the full A/C & heater kit but will retro fit after I've got a up & running truck.
Your project is looking good. Thanks for posting.

Yes, the wiper (stock ) motor is still there. I’ll get the VA smaller glove box (which comes with the ac kits) as I took some glove box room. I’ve seen the newer wiper motors, what is gained? (Other than they lay sideways and take up very little space) . Are you doing the newer wiper motor or the “improved” one? Would like to hear what you think. Thanks!
I'm working on a 65. I can feel a lot of rust in that little compartment under the fuel tank saddles. It is probably negligible but any speck of rust I am able to do anything about I do or it bothers me.
I was curious if you have thought about that or addressed it?

Sorry for late reply. Used new oem style wiper motor & washer pump. TBH, I didn't know there was an alternative. I guess I'll find out when I retro fit the AC.

Are you talking about inside the cab? If so, does anything show beneath? Mine was clean and I left the saddles to build some kind of a behind the seat storage box, but the buckets go back quite a ways so that might not be a thing᠁.
Some bugs to work out, but 500 miles and no fires! (Ps, my Chinesium rally wheels were oval. Don’t buy! Vision wheels I believe.. on the hunt for decent 15” something’s…)

I was incorrect. Your message rolled around in my head and I took both wheels off and sure enough, I put the shoes on wrong. Now has the short shoes in front on both sides.. thanks Eagle eye!!
