The rear half of the driveshaft in my 55 GMC 630 was removed when I acquired it, but came with it. I'm cleaning up and repacking the disassembled u-joint. The locking tab plates are marked "USE OIL". I'm accustomed to greasing u-joints, not oiling them. What am I missing?

Does the cross have a zerk? I would use high temp smooth grease regardless.

Yes, it has a zerk. I plan to use good grease....I was really scratching my head about the oil notation.

FYI for anyone curious: I found in a vintage GMC maintenance manual that the "oil" which is specified is SAE 50. If I had to guess, I would say that, except for when it came from the factory, it has had grease pumped into the joints for every maintenance thereafter.
