Steve, Your question will surely get some answers soon, but the topic better falls into the Driveline forum so it has been moved there. wink

Can you pull the steering wheel and notice in and out play? Is there slop turning left and right before the wheels start to turn? Have you tried making these adjustments? There is a tutorial on this site explaining the process. You may not need a "rebuild."

If you do need your box rebuilt, Lares does an excellent job. They'll even change the gearing if you want them to from 4 turns lock to lock to 3 turns lock to lock.l I had them do a standard rebuild on the box for my '76 F-150 8 years or so ago.

Before I ever even look at a steering box, let alone try to adjust it, I always check every steering component downstream of the gearbox.
A brand new steering box won't make a vehicle ride any better if you have worn out drag link ends, tie rod ends, kingpins, loose wheel bearings, worn out leaf spring bolts and hangers, or bad tires.

i found information on adjusting my 1950 chev 3100 steering box and took alot of play out of steering , but once done i had to adjust the steering wheel by removing it and put back to center. now it drivers alot better. but in a few miles i will let it break in and readjust steering box.

1953 Chevrolet 3600 3/4 ton. I decided to go ahead and replace my front leaf springs, they are shot!!!! Also replacing the front shocks, and replacing the king pins.Everything else is new. Drag link, Tie rod ends, and wheel bearings. Hoping it will make a big difference.

It will make a huge difference.

The can of worms is now open. You'll probably want to replace the rear springs and shocks now too, if they're as worn out as the front ones.

For the sake of a learning opportunity for all of us, can you give it a thorough test drive now, before you do anything to the steering box?
I am curious just how much improvement you have accomplished with what you have done thus far.
