With fall coming and I didn't get to building my shop yet, I am thinking I better get my truck under cover. I was thinking 12 X 24 would be a good size, any feedback? Oh, and it's going on my old concrete slab from the previous garage that I haven't removed yet.

Bill,
I seem to remember you are on one of the islands here in BC, but don't you get all the rain we get in the Fraser Valley, a tarp over it isn't going to keep the rust bugs out too well, I'm thinking.

super - Comox Valley ... right now the tarp is off-n-on every day, and the top half is aluminum, which'll be epoxy primered soon - when I'm done workin for the fall season, it'll have some 2x6 laid down the peak so it sheds better

all it takes to protect vehicles for the winter is some air space 'tween the tarp and metal to prevent condensation inside, if yer gonna build a shop why spend money on a portable? ... should be called 'disposable' anyway grin

Bill

Yeah. I was thinking I don't want to spend $800 for a portable. I bought one years ago and not happy with how long the tarp has lasted. I was thinking of a wood frame and finding a good tarp.

Hey Cool... I have to what are those 6 X 6? I have to figure out something. I have been concentrating on getting my tractor together. I have been taking the paint off of all the parts and painting.... Just about ready for reassembly also waiting for a couple of bearings from BC bearing.

Y'all have anything like these available up there?

http://www.gaport.com/carports.htm

I have a 20 X 21 "Boxed Eave" or A-frame style with full sides and gables. They are nice buildings for a very reasonable price. There are many different styles and sizes from $595 and up. That price includes delivery and assembly. (Click on a picture for more selections).

Mine was under a portable tarp building from Costco worked great for a year for under $200. Since moved it in to my shop and took the tarp building down it's still in great shape put it all in a plastic storage bin for future use.

Grant,
Was it long enough for your truck. Was it a tight fit?

That wood is all old-growth western red cedar, pressure treated or creosoted and used by BC Hydro in transmission structures for up to 50 years, and I only pick the ones without rot. Lengths are between 6' and 14' Here's another load in another dimension.

It was plenty long enough but my 6100 is a short truck too.

Oh buy the way when you think it is tied down good double the ties and if it snows keep going out and removing the snow load from it and it should work fine.

I have one of the cheap 8x20' Costco covers and it covers all but the last 3 feet of my 2 ton. If you go this route, be sure to red head it down to your slab. Those suckers make a pretty good kite in a good wind.

I put up a 26X40 coverall building early last summer! After I leveled off a nice gravel pad with the bobcat, It took about 2 - 3 hours a night during the week to measure evrything up drive the pegs and assemble the frame, 6 hours on saturday to cover the frame and lace the ends hang the door 16 X 10 and it was done and ready for big bolt and what ever. Last winter we had lots of snow and no problem last summer and this summer we had winds up past 80 MPH and even had the odd tree break off and land on it but they just bounced off with out a mark I am extremely happy with it and because it is not a permanent structure the gov't can tax me on it.

That no tax is a good thing. Here we don't have to have a permit because it's portable. Which company did you buy from?

I just read your tag line, Paul. That Nietzche was a disturbed individual. And anyway, if it can't kill you it's not really sporting, is it?

Heh, heh.

Well, it can badly mame you.... How about my new tag line?
I'm still thinking about how I'm going to cover up the beast. Time will tell.

HEY PAUL: more than you probably like to spend but i have a galvalume steel structure that we had shipped up from Philly a year ago and wish to sell. the size is 20' wide by 30' long with a 10' door opening ( no door supplied, but one can be hung from it)the garge kit has 10' vertical walls before transforming into a 4-12 pitched roofbuild this one hoop at a time then another until done. we paid extra and got the optional steel mounting plates to mount it to a cement slab. its a mechano set for adults. we never set it up its still on a trailer in a costco tent no doubt. kit is around $7500 to $8000 canadian if interested or anyone else for that matter.

cheers,
mike

Burgandy, Thanks for the offer, but I already have blueprints for the shop that was SUPPOSE to be built this summer, but it's going up next summer for sure. I think I am just going to throw a $200 Costco portable over it to get it through the winter.
