What kind of carb?

Jon

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air
The most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify.

carbking, Zenith 11968 for my GMC 270 Cubic Inch. I have the carb, it seems to seep even after having been rebuilt.

How much of a seep?

Not uncommon for modern fuel to "wick" through a gasket.

Is the intake wet, or just some stains on the carburetor?

I wonder if the mating surfaces are warped.

It was dripping onto the intake before I removed it. It's sitting on the shelf now. But I would like to use it again. I feel the bowl is porous.

I'll put some gas in it and let it sit. Then I can give a better response.

Where and when was it dripping?

Take a look at the link to my website about leaks around the throttle shaft:

Leaks around throttle shaft at engine shut-down

Wayne - the reason for all the questions is to attempt to determine if you really have a porous carburetor.

The only carburetors of which I am aware that have a reputation for being porous are the new imitation AFB 4-barrels. I won't mention the name of the company selling them as that might trigger a "Peggy attack" on the thread wink (Not a complaint Peggy, I respect the work you do, and the line you have to not allow us to cross).

Your carb is a Zenith type 228. Not saying that one doesn't exist, but I have never seen a porous type 228.

I would not be afraid to try your Zenith again, and try to determine where and when it is dripping.

But to answer your original question:

Carburetors constructed of brass or cast iron, IF SUFFICIENTLY VALUABLE, could be glass-beaded, dunked in a degreasing solution, rinsed, again glass-beaded, and soldered, or nickel-plated to fill a leak.

Carburetors constructed of aluminum can be TIG welded.

Carburetors constructed of zinc alloy ("pot metal") such as your Zenith may be replaced.

Jon, I filled the bowl with gas this morning. It's been about 6 hours and I don't see any gas dripping or seeping.

I need to put it back on and then pay closer attention of where the leaking fuel is coming from. It
will be a couple of days before I wil have time for this.

I'll report back once it's back on.
