Good afternoon gang, I have a 1953 3100, with a 1955 235 and an aftermarket aluminum radiator. The side radiator supports have 2 rods that run from the upper part of the support down to the plate behind the bumper. I see these in technical drawings and they look original.
Mine also has 3 more rods welded in. 1 across the bottom side to side and 2 more diagonally top to bottom in the same channel, forming an x across the front of the radiator. Are these original?

It depends. My radiator support (and the old one I got to replace it) had those diagonal rods, but I've seen supports without the diagonals. I suspect that yours is original. But the FAM, which shows '53 and '54 stuff has a figure (dated 5/53) of the radiator support without them. I don't think it matters whether they're there or not.

Mitch, The 2 snapshots from my 1947-54 Factory Assembly Manual show all those rods in place same as yours. Hope that helps. 😉

Kevin beat me to the post button - lol! 😉 Working on my phone slows me down due to stubby finger typing - argh.

Which diagrams from the FAM did you find for a reference Kevin???

Dan, the FAM figure I found was Section 13, Sheet 1.00, but I see now that it only pertains to 3742-3942 models, which are bare chassis produced for the forward control vans.

I hear you about working thru the phone peephole. I'm surprised you were able to attach the figures that quickly.
