It had . . .
Diamond plate steel welded to the bed over top of the original 1963 bed wood and steel strips.

I made custom repairs to maintain a patina appearance. They blend in but are not invisible on close inspection. Good enough for me.
My mantra is . . . “It’s a truck, not a Ferrari.”

New stainless bed strips and bolts.
New oak bed wood kit.
Wheel house flange repairs.
Header panel had major repairs.
Inner bed side repaired on PS.
Old undercoating removed and new applied.
Better condition bed trim installed with new MAR-K clips.
Just bolted it down tonight.
A 3 month adventure.

Wow!!! That looks fantastic. You can be very proud of that truck bed. I will be fitting my 65 long bed wood soon. Great job.

Looks great! Nice work. Nothing beats a wood bed for appearance.

thumbs_up Mine has the original, I left it that way to remind it where it came from.

VERY nice, next time you're in Michigan you can swing by and give me a quote to do the wood work on my 15 ft. grain box.

That’s a whole forest worth of wood. You need a saw mill.
Thank you everyone for the kind words. Glad this is done. My buddy is working on a 1934 Chevy truck and I just bought a 1934 Chevy Master 5 window coupe. We have plenty of work ahead. Both have interior wood framing that we will change to steel.

My bed wood darkened after it got wet. Not what I expected because I coated every edge and surface with wood preservative. I like the darker color. It seems to add an aged look.

Actually, I was thinking you should throw some cobbles in it and take a drive down a bumpy road to “age” the wood a bit. wink
I agree that darker wood looks better. Nice job. thumbs_up

I like the darker as well and agree with Kevin - cobble it.

That is a dramatic change. both the transition from diamond plate to wood and then the color change of the wood. Fantastic end result
