| | | | Joined: Sep 2017 Posts: 147 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2017 Posts: 147 | I have installed a 292 using the side engine mounts and was wondering if the bell housing crossmember was necessary if I used the T5 tranny crossmember or are both required? Not using the bell housing crossmember buys more clearance for brake booster, clutch mc and exhaust but it sounds questionable to rely on the T5 crossmember. Thanks in advance!

It braces the frame where the rear spring hangers are attached. If you've butchered up the frame with an IFS of some sort, the cowl crossmember probably isn't all that important- - - -the geometry and stability of the original frame has been permanently compromised anyway.

I still have straight axle and leaf springs with all original crossmembers in place...well the bell housing X-member is from later truck that accepts a 292 but other than that all the same.
