I want to get the tank in my 62 series 80 Chevy cleaned out. The local radiator shop sys they will do it but was wondering how big it is so I can get a price from them. It is the tank behind the seat.

My 64 series 60 is 18 Gal, it was pretty dirty and I just pulled it out removed the sending unit put a few hands full of large ball bearings and a gallon of clean fuel shook it around dumped it out and repeated it 3 or 4 times and reinstalled it.

clean crushed gravel will also work. just make sure it's clean.

Ok took the tank off and rinsed it out with the gravel and lots of water. Got lots of crap out of it. It is upside down and drying overnight. I don't figure there could be any more water left over than a bottle of HEET can get rid of. Now it is ready yo go back in and the short piece of hose from the fill neck to the cap stem is cracked up. Can I just use some radiator hose? The guy at the parts store said it would eat through in a couple of days as he was trying to sell me a piece of $30 fuel filler hose or something like that. The tank will never be full or for that matter more than half full so the fuel won't sit on the hose or anything.

Well the fuel tank has a hole in it so it is a mute point if I got the rust out of it. Probably going to go with a side tank anyway now. Never thought to fill it up and check for holes/leaks, because it didn't look that bad.
