I am living in Houston Tx, and currently restoring my 54 GMC - 102-24, which is a 1/2 ton longbed. I purchased the truck in 1983 in South Dakota and drove it for 2 years while in high school. It was parked outside our shop in a field for the next 34 years, "shame on me" and I pulled it out in 2019 and trailered it down to Texas. I am not a Texan but I got here as soon as I could and love living in Texas. The truck is in pieces at the moment, but I am doing a full frame off resto and I am currently putting some color on the body. All of the mechanical is done so I am concentrating on making it pretty and hope to have if done by mid year. Well lets say drivable by mid year, I don't know if I will ever truly finish.

Looking good!! 👠keep up the good work. Having done my truck like you are but feeling like always something else needs doing, I agree you are never feel finished. I come to Humble Texas to see my son who is also a truck/car guy. He has a 1992 S-10 that his grandpa gave him. I may look you up and we can swap stories and check out your work.
Welcome to Texas! If you jump on the main Texas Page, you will see that there are numerous Bolters in your area. We also have a large group over here in San Antonio if we can help you with anything.
Good luck! If you need anything, please hollar and we can try to get you help!
Hey Texas Bolters - it is great to meet you and thanks for the warm welcome. I have been posting quite frequently on OldGMCTrucks, but havent spent much time on this forum. It is nice to know that there are quite a few bolters in the area and I look forward to meeting up some day.

The picture of the plane with my truck is “that’s all brother.” It was the lead allied aircraft that dropped paratroopers throughout the European theater in WW2. It has a pretty cool history. Being a paratrooper, I stood up and started giving commands, the historian just smiled, so I asked for a parachute and for them to drop me over the airfield… he said no.
There is a "static" display Goonie Bird here at Fredericksburg International Airport. It hasn't moved in decades and isn't near as pretty as the one above.
In 1956 I was a passenger from Chicago to Bloomington Il in a DC-3, the civilian version of the C-47. In 1967 the wing commander at Clinton-Sherman AFB let me and another guy in our shop ride a C-47 from our base to Amarillo and back to borrow the compass calibration kit (ours was broken) to swing the compass on one of our B-52s that was going to SAC Bomb Comp the next week.

Beautiful truck, Chris. Do you have plans to go to the Lone Star Round Up in Austin in April? That would be the most likely opportunity for me to meet with any of you central Texas guys. I'll be there.

EBS, I’m not sure yet. I have 2 kids that are extremely active in soccer and I struggle to get out on weekends. I will have to see what happens.
I do know that there are a few of us wanting to bring our trucks out to the Houston area and meet a bunch of you guys? Do you roll with any clubs out there?
I'm in a club, the Korsairs CC. Other vehicles in our club include a 52 Cadillac, 56 Bel Air, 40 Ford coupe, 58 Apache, 30 Chevy coupe, 53 Ford Customline, 51 Chevy Fleetline, 49 Ford 2 door, 53 Chevy car (I haven't seen yet), a 29 Model A roadster that moved to Washington state, and several in-progress projects a few guys have. We tend to go to the hot rod and custom oriented shows with few or no awards, as opposed to the parking lot full of guys in lawn chairs by their restored classics and muscle cars waiting for three dozen trophies to be awarded at 4pm...
There's another local club who's been pretty active in putting together some small shows and a couple of Sunday morning "Kustoms and Koffee" things the past few months. There's been discussion of three or four local clubs (including that one, and ours) trying get together to put on a bigger show, with hopes that it can be "the" Houston area show, since there hasn't really been one for several years, just smaller ones here and there.
Great! Would you be willing to post events in your area in the Texas connection? I could definitely use any help in this area as Texas is slightly larger than one person can handle!
Would you be willing to link up stovebolters in the Houston area?
Think about it and maybe we can chat more!
Have you considered doing the “Hotrod Tour of Texas?”
Glad to have you in Texas. Nice looking GMC. I live in beautiful downtown Carlos [ Anderson, Tx] About an hour northwest of Houston. I live between College Station and Huntsville. Our main attraction is Yankee’s Tavern. You have done a lot of work on the truck and it’s looking super. Good luck with your restoration.
I am the least knowledgeable on here, and it took me a long time to figure this out but, in the upper corner where people post their location, if you click on the place it will give an overview of the town or city. I think it is fun to visit these places if only visually.
