What I really appreciate about the Round Up is the variety of engines in the cars & truck. Instead of 75% SBC/LTx and a bunch of 289-351 Ferd engines, you see some blown Olds, nailhead Buicks, Y block Ferds, gen 1 Hemis, etc.

Looking at that Roundup website, Bill, it does look like fun. Wonder who else (from here) might be going?

EchoBravoSierra is going, along with a bunch of other non-Stovebolt oriented, north of Houston guys. Bruce's Rod Shop (was about a mile from home when I lived in the Houston suburbs) usually shows up with as many cars as they can find approved drivers for.

That's funny. I remember when at the farm, we had so many antique vehicles and equipment (and the horses and wagon), when Leonardtown had its local show, we did the same. Anyone who could drive one (that we knew, of course), could take it and follow us to the show. I think a few in our local group had the same "problem" (short on riders). The plus on that end was the guys whose trucks were still "in progress" phase, could at least participate IN the event and not just on-lookers.

Yup, we (car club) are heading up Friday morning. My buddy with his 235 powered 58 Apache is part of the group, and he will be loaning his 216 powered 30 Chevy coupe to a club member who has moved out of state. Plus my 50 3100, makes three Stovebolt six and T5-equipped rides in our group.

I just looked at the weather and wish I hadn't. Doesn't look severe, just may not be pleasant. Maybe it will be a little more favorable when we get closer to time.

I still haven't done my annual maintenance on the truck- planning to do that tomorrow (oil change, chassis lube/inspection, decent wash, other odds and ends, pack tools and some small spare bits).

Bill, call me Saturday when you get there.

Chris, are you going?

I've been investigating a problem on my truck, which most likely is not a real problem. But I don't know if I'll have enough miles on it to feel comfortable driving it to Austin and back (200 miles) by next weekend. Might have to take the Toyota.

Good morning Texans! I see in our TEXANS ::: Where are you? thread, no one is listed for Austin. Eric, are any of these folks mentioned from that area, or are they from all over the state, and then some? BTW, we've got a neat Texas map that Chris found that we'll use to go along with this link. I have to do a "mouse-over" on it first before it's functional as we want it to be. headscratch

Bill, hope you can drive your truck ... but better be safe than sorry. Take lots of pictures any which aways. pix

Austin people are weird, and proud of it. They are not much for "joining" and groups don't necessarily want them to join. But they have great music!

It is looking like I'll take the truck. May even wash it first. I think I'll take the back road, bypassing the hill just south of Johnson City with a rise of 260 feet in a mile and a half. There is a curve at the bottom that is marked at 45 mph, so I don't get much of a head start. My poor little 228 is breathing as hard as it can to crest the hill at 40 mph in a 70 zone. Other drivers don't think much of that.

Just take alone some sweet tea, and "pull over" so folks won't realize that it's not just YOU needing a tea-brake or I mean: break. grin

Bill, that's me.

Peggy, I mentioned Chris because he's just down the road (I-35) from Austin, so it would be an easy day trip to pop in at the show and back home. I'm in the Houston area near where Bill used to live (which is how we've met), so we'll be driving up Friday and staying the weekend.

Had a great weekend!

Pics are here: https://public.fotki.com/chevelle350/cars/lsru24/

The drive in on Friday was good, a little warm, and sunnier than I anticipated so I got my annual "truck tan" (sunburnt red left arm, pink on the back of my neck, normal everywhere else). Went to a fun show/party event on South Congress Friday night and made one pass cruising down Congress on the way back to the hotel.

The show Saturday was good, though attendance was visibly down most likely due to the bad weather that was forecast to disrupt the day. It was cloudy, windy, and cool all day with some mist. Bill found me at the spot where our club had set up for the day at the show Saturday and we chatted, played show-and-tell with my Chevy, and talked about his GMC. It was great to see you, Bill!

It finally started to rain off and on later in the afternoon. We went to a party at Murpho's hot rod shop in Buda, TX where it commenced to pour for a while. Once it slacked off, we had a sketchy drive back to the hotel in light rain and road spray. I am still searching for the magic solution to getting the rain to run off my windshield rather than bead, stick there, and make the headlights blind me at night, though that's a topic for another thread.

Sunday's weather was amazing, one of those days where you have the cowl vent cracked open and the heater going on low at the same time and it's just right. We had a great drive back including a BBQ stop in Lockhart, then back roads through La Grange, Fayetteville, Industry, Bellville, and back to my buddy's shop in Hempstead for a short visit before my last leg to Spring. My little truck performed near flawlessly.
