The big bolt bumpers have a cross-section similar to that. Like a "U" as opposed to an arc "(". But the brackets don't look like you'd find on a big bolt. Definitely not a bumper that would be correct for a 1/2 ton GMC.
Looks like a decent passenger side running board, though.

I would guess that it’s bent because the bumper bracket looks like it’s been “modified “.

Send a picture of the bumper to Bumper Boyz and see if they can ID it for you and to see if they want it...they straighten and plate bumpers for resale.

FWIW, My vote would be the bumper is bent, as are the mounting brackets on the right side of the picture. The left hand brackets look to be relatively straight. Neither the brackets nor the bumper look anything like a GMC or Chevy of your vintage.
Below is a snapshot of a reproduction 1951 Chevy front and rear bumper set with brackets. The GMC ones were to my knowledge the same. One of our fellow long time GMC owners will hopefully chime in with more details.

I think I agree about the scrap metal. I still don't think it's bent. It's too clean. No creases. My husband is thinking about a roll pan for the rear.
Worse looking bumpers than that have been straightened, it doesn't look kinked.
Before scraping it, find out what it fits. If it's a common car/truck bumper than let it go, but if it's a rare/uncommon bumper there may be someone looking for it even with it being bent.

I just looked through one of my catalogs and I'm pretty certain it's a 1948-1972 Ford stepside rear bumper or a 1948-1956 Ford F-1 front bumper. Eiter way, it's junk since you can buy new ones for less money than it would cost to fix that one.
