Hi all. I have a '49 Panel, but realize there might be safety as well as comfort issues with the fact that the sides don't permit one 180 vision when backing up. Has anyone tried a backup camera? Thank you, Anthony [ecclesia]

Hi there 49er, I have one too! A backup camera would be awesome!

Our fleet has had back up cameras for some time now. Think utility body trucks with extreme low visibility. We've gone from a display mounted on the dash, to displays in the rearview mirror, to displays in the dash. All versions work very well as a supplement to the rear view mirrors and side mirrors. Cameras are weather tight and very small these days.

One is in the works for me, I have limited ability to turn my neck and back. I found one Amazon, of course, that is solar-powered and comes with 2 chargers. No wiring and you can put the camera on the front or anywhere else or the extra can go on a different vehicle and all you have to do is move the screen. NO WIRING. Fox Park is the company name.

I installed one a while back, camera under the rear bumper to keep it out of the glare of the sun.
Monitor between the sun visors where a mirror would be.
Mine runs full time to keep me aware of what's going on behind me.

Hello John panel fan. Curious to know if your monitor has a power cord to the cig lighter? I would like to add a camera setup to my 52 suburban but just can't accept that ugly cord hanging down the dash. (what little dash there is Do you or anyone else know of a battery powered monitor out there. I've found the cameras that use your cell phone via app but that gets real busy bring up the app each time and also will it work with the phone as it is linked to the radio for music? I'm not real tech savvy on these matters.
Anyhow, interesting thread. looking forward to some more ideas.

Azcornman, I described one above from Amazon. It has 2 cameras and one screen and no solar-powered wiring. You can move the screen anywhere it is suction cup mounted with absolutely no wires. BTW $198.00 complete. The manufacturer is FOX.

Richard, I installed a bus bare under the hood for convenience but could be put anywhere that's powered through a fused toggle switch direct from the battery.
This runs all additional devices used, like my radio, gps, and an additional lighter plug in the rear for things like coolers and stuff. The original fuse panel is as stock.
This setup works for me as my ignition switch doesn't have a accessory position and I can't use additional devices without the engine running.
My original rear camera was wireless but required a power source which was supplied through my license plate light, but I have since wired it to the bus bare which I picked up at a marine store..
I mounted the monitor high and tucked the cables in the windshield moulding, but this might not work for different generation trucks.
If your monitor requires a lighter plug you can always mount a separate dedicated one somewhere hidden.
I experimented quite a bit until I found a set up that suited me.
