Yes, that'\s how I have done it for 3 years.

Your heater fan may be spinning in the opposite direction now but if heat's coming out, who cares?

Only permanent magnet motors reverse direction when the polarity is changed. Your heater blower will continue to turn the same direction regardless of polarity. Ditto for the starter. You will need to repolarize the generator.

Just curious Mike: Why did you switch to a negative ground?

When I put a 6-volt heater in my 54 which had been converted to 12 volts it would run on high but not on lower settings, it would hardly turn. I don't know if it was 12 volts,s to begin with, late 54 build. I found the heater in a junkyard in 1984, when I was young and ignorant. Now I am old and ignorant. My truck came from southern Indiana and heaters were an option back then.

hello bill. i had no real reason to switch to negative ground excepte for simple reason im use to it. i read on your profile you ahd one truck with a 228 .
my truck history. my uncle bought it new in cailfornia. it had 228 engine in it.when i bought truck from my aunt afetr my uncle passed it had 51000 miles
most of it life was in bullhead city. and he pulled a 30 spartan trailer with it(we would never get away with that today ). they took a trip to alaska pulling that trailer . sense then it was used locally to pul trailer. from serial number it was assembled in san frrancisco. i might be wrong with that.
i brought it up to canada andsecond winter i goofed up and froze block. then spent a cpl yaers when free time to find a 228. grand kids came along and truck sat in my garage 27 years.when i turned 71 i told wife i need to get on road as im getting to old. quest resumed to find 228 found two one in portland it was cracked and one in sask whick also was cracked. by fluk i found a 235toatlly redone bought it . when install it i found out a chev 235 is shorter . so made a new mount for front leaving cross member original.
then decided on negative gound . for no real reason. im 74 now and truck has 57000 miles love it and think of my aunt and uncle every time i drive it
now i wish i had converted to 12 volts as i want a radio as seems 12 are more comon.it came with 15 inche split rims and now converting to solid rims.
looking at this letter i got carried away .
