I have mentioned here a steering feel change lately. I put on new tires and there is a difference in the feel.

If there is a leak (which many have) it will need topped off occasionally and that usually isn't a big deal.
On later model (80s-ish) systems, the power steering fluid change interval is usually in the 60k mile range. Not sure what you have installed.
That said, bad power steering fluid would not cause the issues you have been describing. That very much sounds like a mechanical problem. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 430 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2021 Posts: 430 | if its the cpp power steering. I have had issues with the fittings starting to leak on the powersteering box itself. Because of its location to the engine even with a heat shield I think the heating hot and cooling loosens the adapters and fitting. I have to tight them at least once a year. I can always tell because the fluid starts getting low. I don't think I have ever had to top off the others i drive but at least once or twice in 10 years.
So check for a small leak. I do the paper towel test around the fittings. Drive for a while then see which one has fluid. zipties / tape keep them in place. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,271 Renaissance Man | | Renaissance Man Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 10,271 | I had an issue with the fitting on the back of the post-80s steering pump and an earlier model high pressure hose. It threads in fine and feels tight, but ended up leaking over time. The old hose is inverted flare, while the pump is supposed to take an o-ring type fitting. They sell an adapter to make it all work. All is good now.
