I took it to one place and they sent me to their other store where there were older men who can handle it. NOPE, then they sent me to another place Belle Tire and their experts came out and said nope, it is too low. ohwell

Ya, a lot of places have a hard time working on stock old cars. Fewer still want to work on customs.

Ron I think you need to find a race shop, one that has experience setting up circle track cars. Most of these guys are used to working on custom suspensions and may offer you some further insite.

I live far away from anywhere. So many of the old guys are retired or expired. The guy who ostensively put my ideas together is on his last legs. Thanks, I will keep looking. BTW it is not a big problem but it takes a little more attention to drive down the road. I think that part of the issue might be the new tires. I do have one more place to check it is the place where I got the tires but I have issues with them. Not bad issues but suspicious ohwell ones.

Ron, if you’re a member of a local car club, I’d bet a few members know how to do a DYI alignment with simple tools. It’s actually pretty easy.

Good Luck,

RonR

Thanks, RonR, my brother-in-law belongs to 2, a Corvair club and a Corvette club. What I am concerned about all of these issues came up after I had new tires put on the truck and work done on my HHR. ohwell

I think you just noticed issues that already existed. The new tires just made the problems obvious. The old tires were probably worn into whatever shape they needed to be to handle the misalignment.

I have no idea if what I am sharing here (THIS LINK) will be helpful or not. All I know is that I can do my own front end alignment myself in my 1963 C10.

Thanks, it may not need it. I will sound silly but when I was experiencing the loose steering it was windy and the fuel tank was almost empty, BTW it is under the bed. I know that the gauge is off, I won't go into the reason. So I ran it as far as I felt comfortable and then I filled it up and it did not feel as squirrely. A 20 gal. tank took 15 gallons. ohwell dance

A gallon of gas weighs about 6 pounds. That's 90 pounds. Maybe that's enough to keep your truck stuck to the road. Who knows? Hard to tell with non-stock components.

The extra weight of the gas in the rear could have been enough to change the caster up front. With a low front end and high rear end, the caster may be near zero resulting in poor handling. Just a thought.

BD, this was just before the Mustang 2 became popular. 78buckshot, a good possibility, and the fact their new 235-75-15 tires on the front I switched from 235-75-15 on the rear to 215-75-15 all around. For those that don't know I got this truck in 1983 and drove it as a working truck until 2008 when it when in a commercial shop for 2 years to what it is now. PS, t5 trans, dual carbs,a/c, cruise, electric Buick Lesabre leather seats, tilt wheel, a look-alike refurbished radio with Bluetooth, it was the while it is here let's do more.
