I am refurbishing a heater. What are you doing for color. Are you going original with that sort of hammered silver/gray? Are you matching interior/dash color? Some other contrasting color?

What are you doing with your truck? If you're restoring it, paint it the correct color. If you're customizing it, paint it whatever color you want.

I have the basic heater and it appears to have been painted black since new. Maybe only the deluxe fresh air one was hammered silver?

This looks good.. I agree ieht Otto because I have an after-market A/C and heat.

My original recirculating heater was kind of a bluish green with a tiny bit of metallic. I tried to get it matched, but didn't get that close. The majority of them appeared to be a bronze hammered finish. Lots of guys use Rustoleum Hammered bronze paint. I got a can of that and may go with that when I get to that point in restoring the heater. I believe that Rustoleum used to have a light bronze, but it appears only dark hammered bronze is available now. Link

[on edit]The Hammerite paint that Deve used (WE b OLD's link) was a good match to the original, but unfortunately the whole line of Hammerite paint has been discontinued. If you could find a dusty can at an old hardware store that might be the ticket, but good luck on that.

The Rustoleum dark hammered bronze was a VERY close match to the paint on my heater.

That's a recirculating heater and appears to be the same color as mine, although I don't have that round part sticking out to the left on your second picture. According to Brad Allen, there were some that were the bluish green color and most were the hammered bronze like Eric's (2 posts above yours). One of Brad's pics is of a blue-green heater. I haven't attempted another color match on mine, and may just go with the hammered bronze instead.
Bottom line, if it doesn't appear to be repainted, then it's "correct."

Thanks. I can't find any evidence that it was any color other than black so I'll leave it alone.

It looks dark green in your pictures.
But black is easy to match.

MIne is the recirculating type. It was the silver hammertone. First pic shows original paint that was under the decal. Second pic shows after restoration. I used the Rustoleum hammertone paint.

Mike, same thing I did on my 54, except you got a better finish. I need to redo mine. I was in a hurry. I had an event I was trying to get the truck back together for. The truck I was asking about that I am working on now is a 47.

Another vote for Rustoleum hammered. I used the bronze color; the result seemed quite appropriate for the vintage of the truck. (‘54). Did not look at all stark or too new.

Here is another original heater couldn’t tell you what year truck it came from as I purchased it separate.I may be incorrect but there may be a difference in colour if it was put on a GMC or a Chevrolet .the one pictured is a greenish blue hammer finish.I have another one of this style and the gm logo is origional with blue lettering also.

That GM emblem is very sharp.
