National Redi-Sleeve Harmonic Blancer Sleeve Installation. Instructions read --- "If the shaft is severely scored, fill the groove with a powdered metal type epoxy filler. The sleeve will have to be installed before the filler hardens." Ever hear of such a thing? Are they talking about JB weld or similar? Are they referring to the grove in the shaft from seal wear?
I was all set to go until I confused myself (easy to do) with the instructions.

I get a bit uncomfortable however when I discover I'm not following the instructions. I'm still curious about their "metal type epoxy filler " recommendation. This a "National Oil Seals" brand sleeve and not a "who knows what" brand. When I'm installing things like bushings and sleeves that might need a little help staying put, I use a green liquid that LocTite makes specifically for that purpose. I don't recall the part number at the moment, but it's on Ebay on a regular basis. It's not cheap, but it is very effective. I use it for installing wrist pin bushings in connecting rods, and other high load areas. Haven't had a failure yet.

Those sleeves are thin and so without a little jb weld or marine tex to fill in the gap and get the groove level with the rest of the shaft, the rubber part of the seal will put presure on the speedi sleeve and collapse it into the groove. So the use of the epoxy, wet, serves both a filler and glue purpose.

He sprays them turns them to proper size and they look good as new maybe be better. Some times depending on his mood it does not cost much more than the speedy sleeve and you don’t have to mess with the hassle. Dave
