The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline Relining Huck Drums

A while back (weeks not months) the subject of unobtainable Huck drums came up again. One suggestion was that perhaps they could be relined with new cast iron liners. Someone gave a link to an outfit that does specialty automotive drums, Corvette, Pontiac Gran Prix, Buick GS, etc. I contacted them and they replied that 12" drums was the biggest they could do. That would work for 1-ton front and 3/4-ton rear Huck brakes. Apparently, it dependes on how much material would be left after machining them out to fit the liners. Here's their reply:

Hey Thomas, Thanks for reaching out to us with your question. We mostly reline/refurbish auto's your request is near the limits of what we normally do but we have worked on them, we only carry some sizes of cast iron liners. We do carry 12" liners and most likely we can repair them with the hope that the side walls are not to thin and it would have to be measured to tell. I think some pictures would help to come up with some sort of quote for you, also we reline Brake shoes and offer Arc/Cam grind them to match the new drum size which gives you 100% contact between drum liner and Brake shoe. I'm wondering it it might be more worth their while if there were several jobs lined up so they could use the same setup. They didn't quote a price.

Jim Carter sells new Huck Drums (although I see you're looking for a 1 ton truck. I haven't looked to see if they carry any for those)
