Getting "correct" brake parts for this 12" 8lug is difficult... I'm def fed up with it enough to put a different rear end under it (Blahblahblah)

Is there a direct bolt in swamp? (That has brake parts on the market)

Why not just adapt a newer complete brake assembly- - - -backing plates, shoes, drums and all, to the existing hubs and housing? You've got a choice of all kinds of 8 lug axles with the same wheel bolt pattern to choose from- - - -Dodge, Ford, GMC, International, and a few others. Many of them run the same Dana type 60 axle, which would be a pretty simple swap if you're determined to abandon one of the best full floater rear axles ever made.

I found a dana 60 out of a 1963 gmc 2500. 8 lug looks like it will bolt in with out any mods. gear ratios avail 410 to 340.i lucked out and it turned out to be a limited slip.

You'll find that there's a slight mismatch on the width of the spring mounting pads on the axle assembly. I was in a hurry to install the one from a 1970 GMC I put into my 59 Burb, so I forced the springs apart a little and bolted everything up. That was 40 years ago, and it's still there!
