I'd like to mount the spare tire under the bed on my stock 1951 GMC 100. Where can I find the right bracket to do this? All I run across is the J hook for a Chevy. What do I need?
If the '51 GMC is the same as the '51 Chevy, you'll need two u-shaped crosspieces that bolt under the top flange of the frame, and a bar that holds the spare tire, which pivots on a rod hanging from the front crosspiece driver's side and is secured to the rear crosspiece on the passenger side. Here's a picture of the spare tire bar (lower left of the collection.) And a picture of the Factory Assembly Manual page showing the assembly.
Welcome to Stovebolt

They're not that hard to find. The earlier (50 and before) spare carriers are the ones that are like hen's teeth.

They bolt on. At worst, you'd need to drill some holes for the cross-pieces.
