I’ve got a leaking, smashed fuel tank that I’m looking to replace. The ones I see online don’t look quite the same. Any suggestions on where to find a replacement? It mounts on the passenger side frame rail, on the outside of the frame. The filler neck points up.

Hi Someday2023, go to the site "FindItParts" and look under heavy duty truck parts, punch in "fuel tank" and page after page of tanks are available. Also Dorman and Spectra have tanks.

So that is a 20 gallon tank. If you just want to replace the tank and don't care if its model year specific. Then your hunt is going to be much easier.
Just look for 12 x 12 x 33 or even longer in length and you may find what your looking for. Or 20 gallon search and just compare dimensions. The good news is you have plenty of room under for a different tank that can be close to that size and not necessary exact.
I could not find a good GM fit so just so happened my model year has a ford tank with dimensions I was looking for. Tanks a tank and I am not doing a true restoration.

That’s a great suggestion. I’ll just look for the size that will fit. I was just hoping I could find the one that would just bolt right in the same spot and not have to move anything.
I was literally looking for the same style tank for my ‘46. I got the universal U3 series Tanks Inc tank thru Summit Racing. Free shipping ! It looks like it will be a good fit
I ended up going with the 39D tank, reshaping the original mounting brackets a bit, shorting the straps and changing sides. For what I’m going to use the truck for it works better on the drivers side.
Looks good. Are you going to do anything with the filler neck it looks like it might be a bit interesting to fill or does the nozzle fit
Eventually I will. I’ll run a curved filler hose up the the flatbed and put the cap up there. For now I have to pump it in out of 5 gallon cans always so it’s not a huge deal.
I have a friend that has a radiator shop. I take my tanks to him and put a sealer on the inside of the tank. Works well if is is not too rusty or leaking badly. If is is a small leak maybe a radiator shop could repair it.
