The front motor mount cover is too wide and it's rubbing on the harmonic ballencer pulley (it was throwing off sparks until the pully wore a groove in it...). Is there a narrower one that fits the motor mount better? 2. The short shaft water pump sits too low -- a third of the fan arc is below the radiator. Because of this mis-match, the lower radiator hose doesn't fit quite right and leaks. Is the plate that Jim Carter sells to move it up easy to install? I see that you have to drill a hole in the block to use it -- yikes. Can I reuse this brand new water pump with it or is it something to add to my expensive lessons learned pile? Mike (ol trucks) or anyone -- got any wisdom for me? John

That way you can get a waterpump from your FLAPS without waiting for shipping or having to shorten one and your fan will be up where it was originally. I think you can also use the 216 balancer, but am not sure. I believe it is two holes that must be drilled and tapped; look for the adapter on Ebay and the instructions for its use are on the product write-up. | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 . | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 | I have a 55 235 in my 52, with the short water pump, it too is low, but always cooled fine. If I was going to do it again would try one of the adapters to use the 216 pump at the correct height.
Do you have a picture of the mount problem? I can then go compare it to mine.

I installed mine with the longer lip towards the pan and I thought it was a mistake. Maybe I did it right and didn't know it. | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,470 Bond Villain | Bond Villain Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,470 | Grigg, In two weeks, you can see it for yourself Si -- That's really wonderful and helpful advice. You should use the balancer from the old 216 as the later model balancer is to big around. Drilling and taping the holes for the plate is easy just make sure to get it straight. I'm using one of these plates and 216 pump on my old doodle bug wench truck that get worked pretty hard and have never had a over heat problem. | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 191 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 191 | Hey John, I'm sure glad you posted this question. Here is a pic of my 216 still in my 4400.If you zoom in on the front motor mount you can see it kinda overhangs the crossmember towards the oil pan.The motor was not original so I'm not sure if it is supposed to be like that. oops, forgot the link http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2674925670092821122EhlJUb | | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 100 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 100 | Hey Skippy, Are those Brillo Pads in your air cleaner or did you find another source I am looking for something simular> John Boy | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | Anonymous Unregistered | It came like that but I'm pretty sure it's chore boy . | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,877 Socket Breaker | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,877 | Originally posted by Baldy: Use Pre68Dave's water pump adapter and a 216 waterpump.
