I have a 47 1.5 ton with steering box issues. The original box uses a block with ball bearings and a worm witch is worn badly. I got a box off of a early 48 two ton but it is different with a worm and rack. Both need rebuilt witch one is the correct box for the truck witch one will work the best. The box off of the two ton has less wear needing only bushings and new seal will it work as well as the box with ball bearings.

HY ttodd, Does your 47 look like an Art Deco or an Advance Design? My Canadian parts book 1938-51 says the 47 - 51 1 1/2 ton and 2 ton steering boxes are the same, so I'm confused.

Sorry for the delay in reply have been working long hours. The old truck is all art Deco. The early 48 was also Art Deco the only difference one was a truck and the other one started life as a school bus. We're in kind of a time crunch to finish old Ralph as we are planing 400 mile road trip in June.

Hy ttodd, From what you describe as long as both boxes mount in the same way I don't think it will make much difference which box you rebuild and install. My parts book does not seem to list the steering box as a complete assembly, just by parts, hope that helps.
