Would the PTO, the ram, and the dump bed switch from a 3800 to a 4400? Thank you, Scott

Let me rephrase: With regard to a 3800 vs a 4400, are the PTOs and transmissions the same size? The rams? The rails? I was told about a 3800 a few hours away from me that has this dump, if it was in my yard, I just might be able to measure it, but I was trying to get some info and save myself a trip. Sorry if I appear stupid to you.

not stupid, maybe just not thinking far enough!
for starters, if the trucks are the same years, they'll have the same transmissions, there was only one 4 speed back then - the pto's are mostly aftermarket, whatever suits the pump and rams, if the pto fits on a 54 4400 trans, it'll fit on a 3800 trans [or it could have an engine mounted electric pump] - the 1T and 1.5T still have the same distance between the rails, so what counts is if the trucks are a similar wheel base, and the length of the deck, but that can be modified

the point is, either model could have had an aftermarket dump put on it, and the dump would be whatever the installer wanted, so all you can do is check the dimensions and see if it'll fit on yours, and see how heavy it appears, and if you think the 3800 can handle it

I put a dump setup on my 1.5T 46 that came off the ground, probably previously on a late 50's early 60's gravel truck - ya do what's needed, if you're lucky it won't take much fiddling

Hey Scott, I,ve got a 54 4400 with a flatbed/dump if you need measurements or pics. Also, looking for a 3800 if you deside not to buy this truck. I would be interested in the Cab & Chassis if you are buying just the dump body. Thanks, Jim D.

I would confirm measurement from back of cab to center of rear axle. You want the dump box to fit the wheelbase and look right. However, as mentioned before rear axle can be moved to accomodate desired wheelbase,although modifying enclosed driveline may be spendy. This is common practice when installing aftermarket bodies. A local shop that services-install truck bodies could be helpful....Jeff

I should also add, withwise these dumpbeds then as now should be a universal fit. The same bed should fit all truck brands.
