I bought a 1 ton GMC cab and chassis and found a 9’ bed.
I want to lower it with coils in the front but I don’t think the mustang 2 IFS kits will work on the 1 ton for some reason. Does anyone know if they make a bolt on or weld on front end kit for 1 tons?
I picked up a 2wd ‘87 S10 rear with 3:73 gears that I hope will work unless anyone has major red flags. I plan to do a 4 link rear or watts if there is anyone who’s able to do it for me, fortunately I live in the city, building this out of an alleyway garage in my spare time.
I want to run 20” Steel wheels on 50 series rubber & I am Swapping the old 216 for a 6.2L L92.
In the end, I just want her strong enough to haul my bike on a small trailer, good hwy driving and if possible, a modern manual transmission t56 or newer I suppose. Currently in tear down, pulling and selling the 216 as soon as I can get those rear engine mount bolts out, those rubber casings are brutal with the cab still mounted (clip is off at least)
Hy EffDubya, welcome, it sounds like you have a very ambitious project ahead of you. Did you consider swapping the body of the truck onto a more modern chassis? Good luck with your project!
Sounds like quite an undertaking you are planning for you truck.
Would suggest you post your technical questions in The Shop Area forums as the Welcome Centre is really all about introducing you and your truck's story and pictures of what you are starting with if you can post them.
From what you have mentioned in your post, the best forum to discuss the overall project idea (all the modern upgrades) is in the HiPo Shop. That forum is where you will get the very best on-topic replies to your various upgrades/chassis change questions.
Will look forward to reading your story about how you found your truck and general pictures to go with the story in this thread, and following your conversations in the tech forums when you get those going.
Once again, Welcome!
Dan

I have limited space so I plan to use the original chassis. Planning to swap front to a mustang 2 ifs (but I’m not sure if they make that for a 1 ton, they specifically note it’s for 1/2 & 3/4 only) and I bought an 87 2wd s-10 rear to link to a 4 link coil over. Lots of time, not a lot of space!
This is a great set of images. Thanks for posting them. I see you've been posting in The SHOPS Area for your questions. Outstanding. Thank you for that, too.
