For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 14 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 14 | Gents: I came across 4 military pattern 9.00x20 tires for sale and I wondered if they would work on my 48 1 1/2t chevy flatbed Grain truck. The tires are used Mil tires 8ply load range "D" 9.8" wide and 41" dia with a 4000lb load rating @65PSIG inflation? What I'm wondering is if these will be too large as my truck has either 600x20's or 750x20's now - I don't know as it is several miles from me now. Has anyone used the Mil tires on the traction axle? Thanks-Greasy Fingers | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | I think you'll need 7:00 rims or wheels, whichever style you have, to accept 9:00 tires. The smaller tires you mention use 6:00". 8:25 NDL MIL tires are availabele pretty cheap quite often and even those use 6.5" rims so putting 9:00 on a 6" rim would really be a stretch. Call a local truck tire shop and confirm but what I'm saying is from my memory and my own experience.
ps. where is Nixa? Near the tornado path? I have property in Howell Cty and hope it's still standing. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 469 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 469 | The 9.00 military tires will rub on the front in a tight turn and look to big for the wheel opening. They will work on the back if your wheels are wide enough. Theirs a guy in Nixa with a 48 or 49 running military tires on his 1.5 ton truck had them on the front just didn't look right, I think he replaced them with 7.50 or 8.00's. If your old tires are road worthy I might be interested in them for project I'm working on. I' just east of you in Sparta. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 14 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 14 | Gents: Thanks for the insight, etc. I just bought this truck sight unseen (save for pictures) from a friends Brother in Law last weekend and I have to travel to Kansas to pick it up and haul it home. Due to work schedules I won't get a chance till weekend after next so I don't know what condition the tires are in but would expect from what I'm told that I'll need tires. The truck is a 48 1 1/2T Grain Dump w/13ft bed and appears to be very straight as it was kept under a shed for most of its life till 10yrs ago when this fellow bought it from a neighbor (orig owner). I'll try to post pic's when I pick it up. It is in running condition but brakes are out. (engine does not use oil or smoke). We'll see soon!- Thanks again, Greasy Fingers. P.S. Oh Yah, Nixa is just south of Springfield and north of Branson. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 14 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 14 | Gents: Maybe this will allow me to post my image of my new find.
