How well do they hold up?? Thinking of putting them on my 54 for a different look than in the past. I am having new tires put on but it is almost impossible to find white walls.

Porta Walls suck.

How wide do you want the whitewalls? 3/4-1" whitewalls are still available from Cooper, Hancook, and various others.

If you want good quality radial tires with wide whitewalls, consider Diamondback tires. I have them on my Cadillac and Packard. They are modern radial tires with real whitewalls, not stuck-on fakes. You can get the tires in any size you want with any width whitewall you choose. They will even custom make whitewalls to your specification in case you want a double stripe or some other color.

Hello Ron
Did you get you whitewalls yet? I saw an ad on a facebook truck forum posted by a fella in Williamsport,IN that is selling four
mounted 7.00-16 BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewall tires that he never ran. Mounted on 6 lug wheels. Price was $800.00.
It was listed in 1947-1954 Chevy/GMC AD Trucks. Seller was Jim Laws

$800 for wheels and tires is a bargain. Unfortunately Ron's truck has Chevy Nova and AMC Pacer running gear so those rims wouldn't work for him.

That's half what I paid for wheels alone.

I am having new tires installed on the back to match the front sizes. But Belle Tire does not have any in the size and price range I want to pay. Even Amazon does not have any and even looked on eBay. There are so many brand names that I never heard and the ones I have heard of are made in southeast Asia. The fronts are Mastercraft and they are whitewall turned in. So I thought I could clean them and use them for a while.

What size tires are you looking for and what width whitewall? Why not get two more Mastercraft to match the front?

Nearly all tires are made in Southeast Asia.

I would Otto but they don't have any with white walls. As close as I can tell the fronts are skinny white walls. When I worked for a Dodge dealer he would order all the vehicles with black walls and then a lady with a mobile shop come around and paint white walls on the vehicles. Of course, it would not last. He was tight. I left after three years and he expected it because of his ways. I did get invited to his retirement party a few years later when he sold to a multi-local dealer.

So you're looking for wide white walls not the 1" stripe variety? Diamondbacks are the only ones I'd recommend. I've had Coker tires and they were absolute junk. (Corky Coker himself actually recommended Diamondbacks to the president of our Cadillac club over his own product)

The problem with porta walls is that they aren't much better than the paint on versions you mentioned. They never seem to lay flat or stay centered.

Does the pic show the wide whitewall variety you're talking about? The were made by Atlas, the tire division for Chevron, in about 1962. I like that width better than the ultrawide ones.

When they first made the narrow whitewall, they just covered some of the white with black rubber.

I have them. They are OK and a lot cheaper than buying white wall tires from the speciality tire places like Coker.

Kumho 205/75R15 tires on G10 van rims. Tire installer griped about the extra fiddling it took to mount the tires, but they didn't charge me extra.

Gord, do yours sit flat against the sidewall? Virtually every time I see them they're bulging out or not laying down properly. It probably has a lot to do with the sidewall of the tires they're fitted to. Some of these tires have so much raised writing and designs on the side maybe it keeps them from clinging to the side of the tire.

Ron: what size tires do you have? I just saw that Speedway has a collection of them for $150-$260 each, depending on size.

I have decided on Kumho white wall tires from Tire Barn. If I decide I don't like them I will just turn them around. Thanks all.
