You don't want to connect the dash lights to the parking lights because the parking lights go out when you turn on the headlights. There is a separate terminal on the headlight switch that runs through the dimmer on the switch. Picture of the switch here. Connect dash lights to the PL connector and the parking lights to the PK connector. The "button" is on the opposite side of the switch from the picture shown above. It is about 1/4" in diameter and does not move far. Even though the maintenance manual says to remove and tape the "bat" lead on the switch, I'd start by removing the negative battery cable.
