GarWood was a manufacturer of winches, bodies, hoists, etc. and was the primary builder of winches on WWII trucks. You can probably find any number of configurations for winch applications for those years. GarWood was made in Michigan and is no longer in business. My guess is that the truck in question is a fixed boom design but there were many designs made. There are still thousands of GarWood winches in service but I don't know who might have parts for them so you might have to do an internet search. Gar Wood was a very prosperous entrepeneur and boat racer in the 20's and built a beautiful line of mahogany pleasure boats. Restored GarWood boats bring a ton of money and are highly sought after by collectors. Some are still advertised in HMN occassionally.
