What methods have others used when "rebuilding" the heat riser ?
Remove the shaft and bush the holes to the nearest size possible with shaft clearance of .010 on the diameter or other?
Make a new shaft to fit the worn holes in the manifold ? Making a new shaft looks to have some difficulties.
Any and all advice appreciated. I have a friend with a "machine shop" . If anyone has a "how to" written up, please share it. Thanks!

Carbon buildup will cause even a moderately close fitting shaft to lock up pretty quickly. If you absolutely must replace the shaft and flap valve, drill and tap the manifold for brass bushings made from 1/4" NPT thread fittings, and drill and line ream the holes for a stainless steel shaft and flap valve. I've reworked several heat risers that way. That's the time consuming, E$$$$PENSIVE way to do it, but it will outlive your grandkids. Jerry

I don't know it it will have an undesirable exhaust leak or not. I guess we will find out. Thanks for the common sense approach suggestion. I tend to overthink just about everything.
