My 1986 C10 has a tired 305, need to swap it out. I have available a 350 out of a 1992 Chevy pickup. I have not started anything yet, just researching the hurdles. What will be my biggest challenges?

That is a pretty simple swap. Just move over all the srock sensors and you will be fine.

You could use the stock fuel pump from the 92 or use a race pump with a regulator.

The fuel pump was one of my concerns, it is in the gas tank of the '92. My 86 pump runs off the cam.

I like the Walbro GS392 as a pretty universal EFI pump. The TBI system on the 92 runs fairly low fuel pressure. I will look up what it is when I get the chance.

I believe there is a combination filter/pressure regulator you can buy as an off-the-shelf part for it.

As I recall, 1987 was the 1st year for TBI, perhaps parts could be canablized. Pump in tank(s), I believe the fuel pressure spec is 9 to 13 psi.

This is correct. The spec is 9-13psi.

The sending unit with the integrated pump and return line is larger on the fuel injected truck, so it won't fit directly into the older tanks. The 87 used the same tank shape as your 86, but with the larger hole for the fuel injection sender.

The combination of a new spectra premium tank and a sender/fuel pump combo is under $200 from rockauto. I am not sure you could set anything else up for that price (other than a junkyard raid).

Is that $200 per tank?

The tank switch valve & dash switch is different for the TBI engine v.s. carb (1986) as I recall.

I was assuming a single tank, my bad.

It was ~$80 each for the tank and sender/pump. I rounded to ballpark $200 for shipping and tax.

They don't appear to be marked L/R. Are the tanks symmetrical for those years?

You will need the later switch valve hat BC59 mentioned because the TBI version has a pressure regulator at the intake and a return line and the switch valve needs the extra ports. If you can't find the correct switch valve, the later (mid 90s) Ford unit is a good universal valve with return ports.

The dash switch might or might not be compatible. I will see if I can rustle up a wiring diagram for each of them.
