For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 18 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 18 | The brakes did not work when I bought this old truck but the engine really seems to run good so I thought I would redo the brakes. Where can I get brake parts for this old truck? http://community.webshots.com/user/hope55chevy | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,276 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 1,276 | Try and find a local shop that relines shoes. If you have troubles ask some of the big rig shops if they know of anyone who is. For the brake cylinders try the part stores for rebuild kits and a brake cylinder hone. If the cylinder bores are pitted there are places that sleeve them. Drums maybe a problem and take a little research. Do a search here on the bolt and the net. Welcome to the Bolt you have a good looking truck there. Keep us informed and have fun. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 18 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 18 | Thanks Grant, I have a neighbor who used to work in the coal mines and was a mechanic. He still has all tools and is going to help me with brakes. Thanks for the unput. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 18 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 18 | Grant, what did you do about rims and tires for your truck? Did you use the old split rims or did you go to a more modern rim? I understand there is a safety issue with the old style rims and it's hard to get anyone to work on them anymore. Thanks Dan | | |
