Hi Colton, As Martin says, this has been discussed in hundreds of posts. I too had the same question and one of the best answers I found was in a post by Denny Graham titled Passenger Side door Logic . If you choose to watch the video, you may want to skip close to the end. The video is mainly about the principals of vacuum and vacuum shifting and is 11:08 minutes long and it has adds.

I removed both door latch... Cleaned them up so I can look at them. I then compared them to each other... They are almost identical to each other except for a couple pieces under a small plate (see photo where the open hole is near the bottom of the latch) these are the pieces that the door lock moves to unlock the door. My thought are to buy a new right side door lock (somewhere around maybe $50). Then put those pieces in the left side door latch.. Make the hole in the driver side door exactly the same as the right side door and get the piece the goes between the Lock and latch. I will need to make a small cut in the door to put the lock retainer clip.. Also need to get the clip.
What's everyone's thought on this.. Am I on the right track. I understand the old time thought about safer to enter and exit the passenger side door.
I think the door latches work the same only they are left and right .I was going to on my 54 put a lock in the outside door handle on the drivers side so you can lock it without going in from the passenger side .If I thought this out right you would only have to get a matching lock (push button ) to replace the solid button on the drivers side .maybe someone else has done this and can chime in .

Did you add a lock on the driver's side? I am in body work, and now is the time to make the hole for the lock cylinder if indeed all I need is the hole and the lock assembly.
