Need to get some new points for my 235 motor. Is there a Delco Remy points, which is recommended?

If you can get NOS DR points from 40+ years ago, by all means use them. If you're buying brand new, Delco is a name that means absolutely nothing. That's not quite true. Delco today means made in China.

I've had a set of points from Auto Zone in my truck since May 2021 and over 3000 miles. So far so good.

Actually probably don't "need" a cap and rotor right now but my current ones (just like the rest of my truck)are starting to show some wear and like the points, thought I always had a spare set sitting around. So yes, while I'm in the shopping mood.

Thanks for the reminder.

Cap D-307 Delco Remy
Rotor D-405 Delco Remy
Condenser D-204 Delco Remy.

I keep a full spare set under the seat .

Usually "E-Pay" has plenty of them.

And these are for a 235?

I really like the idea of storing under the seat along with the bottle jack, can o beer, etc

Engine crank & spare parts including a used but good Belt all under bench seat tucked away.
You never know!

Todd,
Thanks for the list. I've ordered extra of each for my "under the seat" storage.

After reading this thread I was looking online and saw D-105 delco and delco D-105-P. What’s the difference if any between th two? Just curious

D105 is a 2 pc set and is the original. D105p is one piece. Same application. Just one pc instead of 2.
I use D105.

I bought a pile of 235 NOS Delco Remy points on the bay for almost nothing a couple years ago.

A couple of them are “high performance” sets. Always wondered what that meant.

JW51,
Interesting. Wondering if they were marketed towards Corvette 235!
A farmer would not have spent $ on high performance parts on the farm truck.

JW,

What identifies the ones you bought as being "high performance"???

Just a different printing on the box, or different part number???

I don’t have them in front of me. I will look Sunday. They either have “high performance” spelled out, or a “-HP” suffix, or maybe both.

At least that’s how I remember it.

Edit: I’m out of town visiting family, so this is all just stories until I can look at them. I believe the HP set also had a different part number.

I don't think there is any real difference. Think about their function. What could they possibly do differently that increases performance?

Maybe they have a better spring or whatever and might last longer but they're going to spark the same as the other ones.

Correctamundo.

High Performance is an advertising intensifier. It has gotten out of hand. The government gave up. The term has to have data in order to be used. Heavy Duty, cleans better, lasts longer, fresher smelling, more body for your hair, on sale...... all intensifiers. AKA: BS hog wash snake oil and fibs.

OK now you have proven you are crazy. But in good way.

Everybody, just look at your new points and be sure the pads line up. If the they don't, tweak something until they do, and install.
JW, You can write HP on them with a magic marker to help with your rehab.

I tried that. But my truck is so fast with the HP points that the marker lines instantly vaporize.

If I remember correctly the high performance points were vented, ie; a hole in the middle of the point pad. It’s been 55 years since I sold auto parts for a living, so…………

If I remember... D100 was the 2 piece set of points. D100P was the one piece set and the D100 HP was a one piece set with larger diameter contacts.
Same goes with D105.

Just got these two sets of points from flea bay which the post claims are D105. Is 1924571 the same as D105?

By looking at a few pictures on the "net" Yes they are D-105.

I do not have a parts book. I would bet the number probably changed at one point. Is that a One or two piece points?

****Looking at your box it should be a Two piece by the pic..

Yes, it is a 2 pc set. D105P is the 1 pc set.
I prefer the 2 pc D105. Easier to install.

Thanks but I’m still not certain if the 1924571 is infact a D105. Why the different numbers?

cmayna,

A little checking in GMpartswiki resulted in finding this Distributor and Component parts chart that may provide some understanding on these numbers.

From what I see (screenshot attached below) the "1924571" is the GM part number assigned to these point sets and D105/D105P (same GM# for both point sets) the AC/Delco designated numbers.

If you do a search in ebay for "1924571" you will find point sets offered that the labels display both numbers, not just the GM# as shown in your pic. AM sure there may have been many different iterations of packaging as those change at a whim.

Anywho, this should suffice to confirm your displayed points are in fact the same as the D105's and should work just fine.

Hope this helps??? headscratch

Dan
