#15023 06/02/2003 5:37 AM | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | no, not necessary - I've put about 40,000mi on a 57 235 w/ unleaded, no probs, and have run lots of old 283's, 327's w/ unleaded - story is the valve seats may wear a bit faster being not-hardened, but nobody seems to think it really affects longevity - when ya get yer motor rebuilt, ask for hardened seats and welcome to the garage, where yer every puzzle can be solved eventually!! I've had experiences with valves burnt in engines that have not used the additive, but no problems with burnt exhaust valves when the additive has been used on a continuous basis. It doesn't cost much if you buy it at wal-mart in the big bottle.
