Before I post on the "Parts Wanted", I need to know what the piece of sheetmetal behind the grill, under and in front of the radiator is called. I've got the (original) Service Manual, but I'm wondering if there's such a thing as a "Parts Manual" for the '48 2t. Bolt.

If you are talking the piece that suports the radiator that would be the core suport.

splash pan prolly or gravel guard - what you want is the assembly manual, which should call out names and cover all series, but the part will be the same on any series

its called a lower radiator baffle. It keeps the dirt and weeds from being sucked up into the radiator core. It also support the bottom of the grill. On your truck it would have had a hole in it that a crank would have gone though, if one was man enough to try and hand start the engine. On the big trucks there hard to find as most rusted out in the center where the grill support attachs. Like the upper baffle, they will only fit a big truck. The smaller ones use a different size and bolt pattern on theres.
