Does anyone know if my engine needs to be Top Dead Center when installing the flywheel. I read one place it does and another that it can only go on one way. Any tips are appreciated.
Thanks.

NC Scout 52-5,

Check out the install info for the flywheel Pg 1 and info for the flywheel Pg 2 from the 1954 Shop Manual. This is almost word for word the same as from the 1948-51 Shop manual, so should work for your '52, assuming your engine is a '52 235.

Extract screen shots are below.

Hope this helps you out! thumbs_up

So the answer to Lenny's question is NO.

The unevenly spaced dowels will only let you install it one way.

Due to the spacing of the three dowel pins and the bolt holes, it's impossible to install the flywheel in the wrong position. It only bolts on one way regardless of the position of the pistons. BTW, the dowel pins are aligned exactly with the position of the three pairs of companion cylinders on the crankshaft. That can't be an accident!
